Bob Boyd Marquee

Boyd was an East–West selection with the Memphis Red Sox in 1947 and 1948. The surviving Negro American League box scores record 53 hits, 26 runs batted in and a .373 average in 34 games, a partial record shaped by the limited record-keeping resources available to Black baseball.

His best white-major-league season came with Baltimore in 1957, when he hit .318 with 154 hits, 73 runs and 55 walks, finishing sixteenth in Most Valuable Player voting. He followed by hitting .309 with 124 hits and a career-high seven home runs in 1958.

Across eleven recognized major-league seasons, including his Negro American League record, Boyd had 620 hits, 91 doubles, 21 home runs and a .298 average. He played mainly at first base for the White Sox and Orioles, then split his final 1961 season between Kansas City and Milwaukee. He died in 2004, at eighty-four.
