Alex Radcliff was named to eleven East-West All-Star squads between 1933 and 1946, a total exceeded by almost no one in Negro Leagues history. He was a third baseman, and for most of those years he was Chicago's.
He started with the Dayton Marcos in 1926 and joined the Chicago American Giants the following season, staying with them across three separate spells that covered most of two decades. Shorter stops came with the New York Cubans, the Birmingham Black Barons, the Clowns and the Memphis Red Sox.
Born in Mobile, Alabama in 1905, Radcliff batted .296 in the games for which box scores survive, with 506 hits and 251 runs batted in. His brother Ted, a catcher and pitcher known as Double Duty, also played for years in the same leagues. Radcliff died on November 13, 1981, at seventy-six.
