Texas started him at eighteen in 1989 and he faced five men without retiring any of them. Two years later, in his second start and his first for the White Sox, he no-hit Baltimore. He was twenty-one.
Fourteen seasons gave him 102 wins against 92, a 3.96 earned run average, 1,747 innings and 1,330 strikeouts. His best year was 1993: 15-8 with a 2.95 for the White Sox club that won the division. He was an All-Star the following season.
Tampa Bay signed him for five years and $35 million before its first season and got 22 wins and a shoulder operation for the money. He came back with the Dodgers at thirty-three. He was Venezuelan. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
