Wilbert Robinson Marquee Hall of Fame 1945

He caught 1,316 of his 1,371 games and batted .273 on 1,388 hits across 17 seasons, five of them with the Philadelphia Athletics of the American Association before Baltimore. His best year at the plate was 1894, when he had 146 hits and 98 RBI in 109 games for an Orioles team that finished first in the National League.

Baltimore finished first again in 1895 and 1896 with him catching. He stole 196 bases, more than any other catcher in the archive with a thousand games caught, though before 1898 a runner could be credited with a steal for taking an extra base on someone else's hit. He caught his last games for the American League Orioles in 1902.

He is remembered for what came next, managing Brooklyn for so long that the club was called the Robins after him. The Old Timers Committee elected him in 1945 in the manager category, the same year it took Hughie Jennings, his shortstop in Baltimore, as a player.
