Kansas City traded him to Tampa Bay in December 2012 in the deal for James Shields. He came up the following June, hit 13 home runs in 88 games and took the Rookie of the Year award with 131 points of 150 and 23 of the first-place votes.
San Diego got him in a three-way trade after the 2014 season and gave him the best years he had: 28 home runs, 94 runs batted in and 28 stolen bases in 2016, when he was an All-Star, and 30 home runs the season after. The Padres then signed him for six years and $83 million, and he never hit 20 home runs in a season again.
Eleven seasons gave him 965 hits, 156 home runs, 533 runs batted in, 107 stolen bases and a .252 average. He played the outfield, first base and third base, and pitched four times when games got out of hand. Cincinnati released him in 2023 at thirty-two. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
