Tom Paciorek's best season came at thirty-four, in the strike-shortened summer of 1981, when he hit .326 for Seattle, made the All-Star team, and finished second in the American League batting race. He had been a part-time player for most of the decade before it.
He came up with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1970 as one of a large group of outfield prospects and never dislodged anyone, moved to Atlanta, and only found regular work after Seattle acquired him in 1978. Four seasons with the White Sox followed.
Born in Detroit in 1946, Paciorek batted .282 with 1,162 hits across eighteen seasons, and spent two decades afterwards as a television analyst for the White Sox and other clubs.
