Steve Garvey played first base for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 14 seasons before finishing his career with five more in San Diego, retiring in 1987.

He batted .294 with 2,599 hits over 2,332 games, driving in 1,308 runs and scoring 1,143, a durable and consistent line built up across more than a decade and a half. Four consecutive Gold Gloves came between 1974 and 1977.

Most Valuable Player in 1974, he also took two All-Star Game MVP awards, in 1974 and 1978, and two League Championship Series MVP awards, in 1978 and 1984. The Roberto Clemente Award followed in 1981.

Ten All-Star selections spread across 1974 to 1985. Tampa, Florida is where he was born, on December 22, 1948; he batted and threw right-handed.
