Sid Hudson Marquee

He went 17-16 in 1940 as a twenty-five-year-old rookie for a Washington club that finished seventh, and 13-14 the next year, and was an All-Star in both. The clubs did not improve: he lost 152 games in all against 104 wins, with a 4.28 earned run average across 2,181 innings.

Three years in the Army Air Forces took the middle of his career and he came back at thirty-one with a sore arm. He was 14-14 in 1950 for a club that lost 87, which was one of the better seasons anybody had for Washington in those years.

He coached pitchers for the Senators and Rangers and then at Baylor for two decades, where the field is named for him. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 2008, at ninety-three.
