Sibby Sisti Marquee

b. July 26, 1920 · Boston Bees 1939–1940, Boston Braves 1941–1942, 1946–1952, Milwaukee Braves 1953–1954

Sisti's best season came early. In 1941 he played 140 games for Boston, collected 140 hits, scored 72 runs and drove in 45 while splitting his work around the infield. It was the only season in which he reached 500 at bats.

Thirteen seasons gave him 732 hits, 121 doubles, 27 home runs, 401 runs and a .244 average across 1,016 games. He played 359 games at second base, 290 at third, 209 at shortstop and 74 in the outfield, a distribution that made versatility the center of his career.

Sisti debuted with the Boston Bees in 1939, remained as they became the Braves and missed three major-league seasons from 1943 through 1945. He later moved with the franchise to Milwaukee for his final two seasons in 1953 and 1954. The 1960 Hall of Fame ballot gave him one vote of 269. He died in 2006, at eighty-five.
