He was the setup man for the 2008 Phillies that won the World Series and took over as closer in 2011, saving 32 with a 2.37 earned run average. He signed elsewhere that winter, tore an elbow ligament in spring training, and did not throw a major-league pitch in 2012, 2013 or 2014.
Kansas City gave him a minor-league contract for 2015. He pitched 68 times with a 2.13 earned run average and won a second World Series ring at thirty-four, four years after his last one. Oakland then paid him to close and he saved 30 in 2016.
Thirteen seasons gave him 61 wins, 91 saves, 869 innings and a 3.48 earned run average across 740 appearances. He finished with Washington and the Dodgers in 2018 and is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
