Rudy Sommers Marquee

Sommers carried almost all of his workload with Brooklyn in 1914. He made 23 appearances, eight of them starts, and went 2-7 with two saves and a 4.06 earned run average across 82 innings. He struck out 40 and completed two games.

Four recognized seasons gave him a 2-8 record, two saves, 44 strikeouts and a 4.81 earned run average in 101 innings. Sommers started eight of his 33 appearances, completed two games and never threw a shutout.

The Cubs gave Sommers his first major-league appearance in 1912. After the 1914 Federal League season with the Tip-Tops, he spent eleven seasons outside the majors. Boston brought him back for two relief appearances in 1926 and seven more in 1927. Those final outings extended his recognized career across sixteen calendar years and three organizations. Sommers collected seven hits as a batter and died in 1949, at sixty-two.
