Ray Sadecki Marquee

He went 20-11 for the 1964 Cardinals, who caught Philadelphia in the last two weeks, and won the first game of that World Series. He was twenty-three and had been in the major leagues since he was nineteen; it was the only twenty-win season he had.

St. Louis traded him to San Francisco in May 1966 for Orlando Cepeda, who was the Most Valuable Player of the National League the following year for a club that won another World Series. Sadecki went 3-7 the rest of that season.

Eighteen seasons gave him 135 wins against 131, a 3.78 earned run average, 2,500 innings and 1,614 strikeouts, for six clubs. He was in the Mets' rotation for the 1973 pennant winner and pitched in that World Series too. The 1983 ballot gave him two votes of 374. He died in 2014, at seventy-three.
