Ray Dandridge Marquee Hall of Fame 1987

The counted record gives him 298 hits and a .317 average over 247 recorded games across eight seasons from 1933, with 160 games at third base. He was chosen for three East-West All-Star games. It is a thin record for a man his contemporaries put at the top of their lists, and it is thin because these statistics were not kept with the resources the white major leagues had.

The years the archive does not hold are the larger part: he spent much of the 1940s in Mexico, where the pay was better and the segregation was not, and he returned to the Newark Eagles in between.

The Giants signed him in 1949, after the line had fallen, and sent him to Minneapolis in the American Association. He was named that league's most valuable player in 1950 and was never called up. The Veterans Committee elected him in 1987, while he was alive to hear it.
