Phil Cavarretta Marquee

Phil Cavarretta played nearly two decades for the Chicago Cubs, from 1934 until a trade sent him to the crosstown White Sox for his final two seasons, retiring in 1955.

He batted .293 with 1,977 hits over 2,030 games, driving in 920 runs and scoring 990, a durable career that spanned more than twenty years in professional baseball.

He won the Most Valuable Player award in 1945 and was a Baseball Magazine All-Star twice, in 1945 and 1946.

Over his career he was picked for the All-Star Game four times, from 1944 to 1947. Born in Chicago on July 19, 1916, he batted and threw left-handed. His death came on December 18, 2010.
