Ozzie Guillén played shortstop for the Chicago White Sox for thirteen seasons before finishing his career with brief stops in Atlanta, Baltimore and Tampa Bay, retiring in 2000.
He batted .264 with 1,764 hits over 1,993 games, scoring 773 runs and stealing 169 bases, a defensively minded shortstop's game across sixteen seasons.
A Gold Glove came his way in 1990, the same year he made one of his three All-Star teams.
His All-Star selections came in 1988, 1990 and 1991, the recognized peak of a career built more on defense than offense. He was born in Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela, on January 20, 1964, and batted left-handed while throwing right.
