Nick Markakis Marquee

Nick Markakis played 2,154 games and it took him until his thirteenth season to make an All-Star team. That is roughly the shape of his career: 2,388 hits, 1,046 runs batted in, a .288 average, and very little fuss about any of it.

Baltimore drafted him seventh overall in 2003 and he was in right field at Camden Yards by 2006, staying nine years and winning Gold Gloves in 2011 and 2014. Atlanta signed him in 2015 and he spent his last six seasons there, adding a third Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger in 2018 at thirty-four.

Born in Woodstock, Georgia in 1983, he had also been a genuine pitching prospect in high school. He retired after the 2020 season.
