Neil Robinson Marquee

b. July 31, 1907 · Homestead Grays 1934, Cincinnati Tigers 1937, Memphis Red Sox 1938–1948

Neil Robinson spent eleven seasons in center field for the Memphis Red Sox and was chosen for eight East-West All-Star games while he was there, which for a club that rarely contended says most of what needs saying about how he was regarded.

He had begun with the Homestead Grays in 1934 and spent a season with the Cincinnati Tigers before Memphis acquired him in 1938. He hit for more power than most outfielders of his league and era, with 21 home runs in the games that were scored.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1907, Robinson batted .289 with 310 hits and 175 runs batted in across the surviving record, and died on July 23, 1983.
