In 2014 he had 200 hits, 45 doubles, 20 home runs, 23 stolen bases and a .327 average, struck out 56 times, and finished third in the Most Valuable Player voting. Fifteen seasons gave him 1,656 hits, 348 doubles, 129 home runs, 720 runs batted in and a .298 average, with five All-Star selections.

He came to Cleveland in 2008 as the player to be named later in the trade that sent CC Sabathia to Milwaukee, which is the last line of that transaction and the best part of it for the club that gave up the Cy Young winner.

Shoulder surgery cost him most of 2016 and 2017 and he came back to make two more All-Star teams. Houston signed him for 2019 and he won the World Series there in 2022. He is not yet on a Hall of Fame ballot.
