Marlin Carter played third base for the Memphis Red Sox for the better part of a decade, arriving in 1938 after stops with the Monroe Monarchs, the Cincinnati Tigers and the Atlanta Black Crackers. He was chosen for East-West All-Star games in 1939 and 1942.
He batted left-handed and threw right-handed, and was known as a contact hitter who put the ball in play — two home runs in 238 recorded games, against 86 walks and 21 stolen bases.
Born in Haslam, Texas in 1912, Carter finished with the Chicago American Giants in 1948 and batted .252 in the surviving record. He died on December 20, 1993, a week short of his eighty-first birthday.
