He pitched at least 200 innings in fourteen consecutive seasons, from 2001 to 2014, which nobody else of his era did. He threw a no-hitter in 2007 and a perfect game in 2009, and won 214 games against 160 with 3,283 innings and four Gold Gloves.

He worked faster than anyone in the game — often under fifteen seconds between pitches, at a time when the average was above twenty — and games he started ran forty minutes shorter than the norm. The pitch clock introduced a decade after he retired was an attempt to make everyone else do what he did.

Twelve of the sixteen seasons were with the White Sox, and he won the 2005 World Series with them. Five All-Star selections. He has been on five writers' ballots since 2021 and has stayed between 6 and 11 percent, which for that durability is a modest return.
