In October 2014 he won the wild card game with a shutout at Pittsburgh, won two World Series starts, and then came out of the bullpen on two days' rest to throw the last five innings of the seventh game in Kansas City. He allowed no runs in them. The postseason totals were 52 and two-thirds innings and a 1.03 earned run average, and he was the most valuable player of both the Championship Series and the World Series.

Fifteen seasons gave him 134 wins against 124, a 3.47 earned run average, 2,209 innings and 2,070 strikeouts, with four All-Star selections. He won three World Series with San Francisco in five years, in 2010, 2012 and 2014, and pitched in all three.

He hit 19 home runs, won two Silver Sluggers, and hit two grand slams in the same season, in 2014, which no pitcher had done. Arizona signed him for five years after 2019 and released him in the fourth. He is not yet on a Hall of Fame ballot.
