Luis Castillo Marquee

b. September 12, 1975 · Florida Marlins 1996–2005, Minnesota Twins 2006–2007, New York Mets 2007–2010

He stole 62 bases in 2000, the most in the National League, and hit .334. Two years later he led the league again with 48 and put together a 35-game hitting streak, the longest in the major leagues since Paul Molitor's 39 in 1987. Florida won the World Series the year after that, with him at second base for 152 games.

Fifteen seasons gave him 1,889 hits, 1,001 runs, 370 stolen bases, 800 walks and a .290 average, with three All-Star selections and three straight Gold Gloves from 2003 to 2005. He hit 28 home runs in his career and did not need them.

Minnesota had him for a season and a half; the Mets had him for four years that ended badly, with a dropped pop-up at Yankee Stadium in 2009 that is the play New York remembers. He was released in 2011 at thirty-five. The 2016 ballot gave him no votes out of 440.
