Larry Hisle Marquee

He drove in 119 runs for Minnesota in 1977 to lead the league, with 28 home runs and a .302 average, and signed with Milwaukee that winter for six years. In 1978 he hit 34 home runs with 115 runs batted in and finished third in the Most Valuable Player voting. In April 1979 the rotator cuff went.
He played 79 games over the four seasons that followed and was finished at thirty-five. Fourteen seasons gave him 1,146 hits, 166 home runs, 674 runs batted in, 128 stolen bases and a .273 average, with two All-Star selections.
He had been orphaned at eleven and raised by a family friend in Portsmouth, Ohio, and he coached hitters for Milwaukee and Toronto for twenty years afterward. The 1988 ballot gave him no votes at all.
