His first major-league game came on March 31, 2014. He had 176 hits that season, 36 home runs and 107 runs batted in, batted .317, and the writers made him Rookie of the Year. He drove in at least 100 runs in five of his first six full seasons, and hit 30 or more home runs in five.

The 2020 season ran sixty games. He led the American League in hits with 76 and in runs batted in with 60, and was named Most Valuable Player. He had led in runs batted in the year before too, with 123, for a Chicago team that lost 89 games. Thirty other men have won both awards.

He hit for the cycle against San Francisco on September 9, 2017, and hit three home runs against the Cubs on August 22, 2020. Across eleven seasons he batted .283 with 1,587 hits, 263 home runs and 960 runs batted in, and made three All-Star teams. He played 35 games for Houston in 2024 and has not appeared since.
