He won 86 games for the Rockies between 2008 and 2016, more than Aaron Cook, Germán Márquez or anyone else has won there. He did it at altitude, where a left-hander with a changeup is not supposed to survive: 16-9 in 2009, 16-6 with a 3.49 earned run average in 2013, 14-11 in 2014.
Fifteen seasons gave him 104 wins against 87, a 4.58 earned run average, 1,522 innings and 1,273 strikeouts. Four organizations traded him before he turned twenty-seven, and only Colorado gave him a rotation spot and kept him in it.
Elbow surgery cost him most of 2012. He came back for four more seasons in Denver, then finished in the bullpen for Arizona and the Cubs at thirty-seven. He is Mexican, from Monterrey, and pitched for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. No Hall of Fame ballot has listed him.
