Johnny McCarthy Marquee

McCarthy became the Giants' regular first baseman in 1937 and hit .279 with 117 hits, 10 home runs and a career-high 65 runs batted in. In 1938 he played 134 games and raised his hit total to a career-best 128.

Eleven seasons gave him 432 hits, 72 doubles, 25 home runs, 209 runs batted in and a .277 average across 542 games. He played 383 games at first base, five in the outfield and made one pitching appearance in 1939.

Brooklyn brought McCarthy up in 1934 and 1935, followed by six seasons with the Giants. He joined Boston in 1943 and hit .304 with 95 hits across 78 games, then returned for two games in 1946. One last Giants season in 1948 closed his career. He died in 1973, at sixty-three.
