Quest's largest season came in 1884, split among Detroit, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. He played 93 games, collected 73 hits, drove in 48 and scored 19. His only career home run had come for Chicago in 1881.

Nine recognized major-league seasons gave him 496 hits, 77 doubles, 159 runs batted in, 299 runs and a .217 average across 593 games. He played 530 games at second base and 66 at shortstop, with two appearances elsewhere.

Quest also played three games for Cleveland in the 1871 National Association, recording three hits, one double, two runs batted in and one run; the archive lists that record separately. His recognized career later covered Indianapolis, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia before ending in 1886. He died in 1924, two days before his seventy-second birthday.
