Joe Judge played first base for the Washington Senators for eighteen years, which covered the whole of the only period in which that club was any good. He batted .324 in the 1924 World Series as Washington beat the New York Giants for its only championship.
He was a small man for the position and made his living on defense and on-base skill rather than power, hitting 71 home runs in twenty seasons while drawing 965 walks and batting .298.
Born in Brooklyn in 1894, Judge collected 2,352 hits and 1,034 runs batted in across 2,171 games, finished with Boston in 1934, and later coached at Georgetown University for twenty seasons. Judge died on March 11, 1963, at sixty-eight.
