Battin's largest recognized season came with St. Louis in 1876, the National League's first year. He hit .300 with 85 hits, 46 runs batted in and 34 runs across 64 games. The hits, runs batted in and average were career highs.

Six recognized major-league seasons gave him 313 hits, 34 doubles, 21 triples, three home runs, 81 runs batted in and a .218 average across 360 games. His complete fielding record includes 340 games at third base and 125 at second.

Battin had already played four National Association seasons, recording 126 hits, 17 doubles, 62 runs batted in and a .243 average across 120 games; the archive keeps those figures separate. He later represented Pittsburgh, Baltimore, the Union Association entry based in Chicago and Pittsburgh, and Syracuse. Battin also went 9-23 across 32 games as a manager. He received one vote on the 1936 Veterans ballot and died in 1937, at eighty-four.
