Born February 10, 1856
New Haven, CT, USA
Keenan's best season came for Cincinnati in 1889. He hit .287 with 86 hits, six home runs, 60 runs batted in, 52 runs, 18 stolen bases and 48 walks. The home runs, runs batted in and walks were career highs.
Ten recognized major-league seasons gave him 450 hits, 60 doubles, 36 triples, 22 home runs, 208 runs batted in and a .241 average across 522 games. He caught 406 games and played 105 at first base, with shorter work in the outfield and at third.
Keenan also played five games for New Haven in the 1875 National Association, recording one hit and one run; the archive keeps that pre-National League record separate. His recognized career later covered Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and two Cincinnati identities before ending in 1891. He died in 1926, at seventy.
