Javy López caught for the Atlanta Braves for twelve seasons before finishing his career with Baltimore and a brief stop in Boston, retiring in 2006.
He batted .287 with 1,527 hits over 1,503 games, hitting 260 home runs and driving in 864 runs, power numbers that stood out for the position he played.
He took the League Championship Series MVP award in 1996 and a Silver Slugger in 2003, the same year he was a Sporting News All-Star.
He made three All-Star teams, in 1997, 1998 and 2003, spread across a fifteen-season career spent almost entirely behind the plate. He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on November 5, 1970, and batted and threw right-handed.
