Jason Isringhausen Marquee

b. September 7, 1972 · New York Mets 1995–1997, 1999, 2011, Oakland Athletics 1999–2001, St. Louis Cardinals 2002–2008, Tampa Bay Rays 2009, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2012

He came up in 1995 and went 9-2 with a 2.81 earned run average in fourteen starts at twenty-two. The New York papers named him, Bill Pulsipher and Paul Wilson Generation K and expected a decade of it. All three were injured within two years and none of them ever started a full healthy season for the Mets.

Oakland moved him to the bullpen in 1999 and he stayed there for thirteen years, saving 300 games — 30th on the all-time list — with a 3.64 earned run average. He led the National League with 47 saves for St. Louis in 2004, the year the Cardinals won 105 games and lost the World Series in four.

The elbow was rebuilt twice and the career ended and restarted more than once. He got the last of the 300 saves back with the Mets in 2011, at thirty-eight, sixteen years after he first pitched for them. The 2018 ballot gave him nothing.
