He saved 23 games with a 1.72 earned run average for Oakland in 2005 and was Rookie of the Year at twenty-one, having closed Texas's College World Series title the year before. He saved 324 in thirteen seasons, 21st on the all-time list, with a 2.95 earned run average across 680 innings.
He closed for four clubs and had a good year in each: 23 saves at a 1.85 earned run average for San Diego in 2012, and 40 for the Angels in 2015. Two All-Star selections. He never lost the job anywhere except to injury, and the injuries came often enough to hold the total down.
His father, James Street, quarterbacked Texas to the 1969 college football championship, which is a reasonable amount of pressure to grow up under in that state. He got one vote of 389 in 2023.
