Born October 2, 1970
Stockton, CA, USA
He appeared in 83 games in 1996, 79 in 1997 and 70 or more in five other seasons, which is where the name came from. Seventeen seasons gave him 908 appearances, 187 saves and a 4.31 earned run average across 944 innings.
Minnesota made him a closer at thirty-one and he saved 45 games in 2002 to lead the American League, with a 2.93 earned run average, for the club that won the division after nearly being eliminated by the league itself the winter before. He saved 41 more the next year.
He was from Stockton, California, was a starter in the minor leagues and lost that job quickly, and pitched until he was thirty-nine. The 2015 ballot gave him no votes at all.
