He hit .348 for Colorado in 2016, the best in the National League, and .364 for the Yankees in 2020, the best in the American — the only player to lead both leagues in average. He finished third in the Most Valuable Player voting in 2020 and fourth in 2019.

Fifteen seasons have given him 1,772 hits, 278 doubles, 126 home runs, 663 runs batted in and a .289 average, with four Gold Gloves at second base, two Silver Sluggers and three All-Star selections. He hit .327 with 26 home runs in his first Yankee season, in 2019.

He came to Colorado from the Cubs in a trade for Ian Stewart that nobody noticed at the time. A toe injury and hip trouble took the last three seasons of the six-year contract New York gave him. He is still playing.
