Diego Seguí pitched for the Seattle Pilots in 1969, the season the franchise existed, and for the Seattle Mariners in 1977, the season they began. Nobody else played for both, which makes him the answer to a question the city has been asking ever since.
In between he led the American League in earned run average for Oakland in 1970 at 2.56, and won a World Series ring with the Athletics in 1972. He worked as both a starter and a reliever across fifteen seasons, saving 71 games and starting 171.
Born in Holguín, Cuba in 1937, Seguí struck out 1,298 batters and finished 92-111. His son David played fifteen seasons of his own. He was eighty-seven at his death, in June 2025.
