Dick McAuliffe Marquee

b. November 29, 1939 · Detroit Tigers 1960–1973, Boston Red Sox 1974–1975

Dick McAuliffe played second base for the Detroit Tigers for fourteen seasons before finishing his career with two years in Boston, retiring in 1975.

He batted .247 with 1,530 hits over 1,763 games, hitting 197 home runs and driving in 697 runs, with 882 walks showing genuine plate discipline for a middle infielder.

His three All-Star selections came in consecutive seasons, 1965, 1966 and 1967, the peak years of his career in Detroit.

He was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on November 29, 1939, and batted left-handed while throwing right, an uncommon split for a middle infielder of his generation, and he lived until May 13, 2016, decades after his playing days ended.
