Buck Freeman Marquee

His 25 home runs in 1899 were more than twice what anyone else hit that season and the most anyone had hit in a season since 1884. The total stood until Babe Ruth hit 29 in 1919. He also drove in 122 runs that year and had 187 hits.

He moved to the new American League with Boston in 1901 and led it in runs batted in in 1902 with 121 and in home runs and runs batted in both in 1903, with 13 and 104. He played right field for the Boston club that won the first World Series that October.

Eleven seasons gave him 1,235 hits, 199 doubles, 131 triples, 82 home runs, 713 runs batted in and a .293 average. He was a left-handed pitcher first and won three games as one. Four committees have taken up his name. He died in 1949, at seventy-seven.
