Bob Allison Marquee

b. July 11, 1934 · Washington Senators 1958–1960, Minnesota Twins 1961–1970

He was Rookie of the Year for the last Washington club before it moved, with 18 of the 24 first-place votes in 1959, and moved with it to Minnesota. Thirteen seasons gave him 1,281 hits, 256 home runs, 796 runs batted in, 795 walks and a .255 average, with three All-Star selections. He led the American League with 99 runs in 1963 and hit 35 home runs that year.

In the second game of the 1965 World Series he ran into the left-field corner at Metropolitan Stadium, caught Jim Lefebvre's line drive sliding on wet grass and held it, which is the play that series is remembered for. Minnesota lost the Series in seven.

He and Harmon Killebrew hit grand slams in the same inning in 1962, which no pair of teammates had done. He was diagnosed with a rare degenerative ataxia in the 1980s and campaigned for research into it. He died in 1995, at sixty. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him.
