Born June 24, 1865
Richmond, VA, USA
He played third base for the Boston clubs that won pennants in 1891, 1892 and 1893, drove in 123 runs in the last of those years and 110 more in 1895, and captained the team. Fifteen seasons gave him 1,616 hits, 271 doubles, 1,080 runs batted in, 805 walks, 269 stolen bases and a .275 average.
In November 1895 Boston traded him to Philadelphia for Billy Hamilton straight up, which is one of the rare cases of two everyday stars changing places for each other. Hamilton went on to the Hall of Fame; Nash hit .265 for three years in Philadelphia and managed the club in 1896.
He was regarded in his time as the best fielding third baseman in the game, playing well off the bag and charging bunts, which was new. He worked in Philadelphia after baseball. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1929, at sixty-four.
