Robin Yount's 3,000th Hit

Robin Yount singled in the fifth of his five at-bats' worth of chances against Cleveland on September 9, 1992 — one hit on the night, the 3,000th of his career. Milwaukee lost 5–4 at home.

Yount had signed with the Brewers as an eighteen-year-old and was their starting shortstop by the end of that summer in 1974. He won Most Valuable Player awards nine years apart, in 1982 at shortstop and 1989 as a center fielder, having moved off the infield when his shoulder gave out.

He was thirty-six, which made him one of the youngest men to reach the milestone, a function of having started so early. Yount played one more season, stopped at 3,142 hits, and went into the Hall of Fame in 1999 alongside George Brett.
