Paul Molitor's 3,000th Hit

Paul Molitor was forty years old and having the best hitting season of his life. He collected three hits at Kansas City on September 16, 1996, and the second of them, a triple, was his 3,000th. Minnesota lost 6–5.

No one else has reached the milestone with a triple. Molitor finished that year with 225 hits, more than he had managed in any of his eighteen previous seasons, and drove in 113 runs at an age when most players are gone.

He had spent fifteen years in Milwaukee and won a World Series with Toronto in 1993, taking the series MVP award. He retired in 1998 with 3,319 hits and 504 stolen bases, and entered the Hall of Fame in 2004.
