Cal Ripken's 3,000th Hit

Cal Ripken had three singles in five at-bats at Minnesota on April 15, 2000, the third of them his 3,000th hit, and Baltimore won 6–4.

Ripken was thirty-nine and in his twentieth season with the Orioles, the only club he played for. He is remembered first for durability — 2,632 consecutive games, a streak that passed Lou Gehrig's in 1995 and ended only when he chose to end it — but he had also won two Most Valuable Player awards and reshaped what teams expected from a shortstop's bat.

He retired the following year with 3,184 hits and 431 home runs, and went into the Hall of Fame in 2007 with 98.5 percent of the vote.
