Yordan Álvarez signed with Houston by way of a trade that cost the Astros a relief pitcher, which is now considered one of the more lopsided deals of the era. He won Rookie of the Year in 2019 and has hit .297 with 170 home runs since.
October is where the reputation was made: a walk-off three-run home run in the 2022 division series, then a series-turning home run in the World Series that Houston won. He had been League Championship Series Most Valuable Player the year before that.
Born in Las Tunas, Cuba in 1997, Álvarez has made three All-Star teams and won a Silver Slugger, and has spent his entire major league career with the Astros.
