Warren Cromartie Marquee

Warren Cromartie played nine seasons in Montreal alongside Andre Dawson and Tim Raines, hitting .281 and playing on the 1981 club that came within a ninth-inning home run of the World Series. Then he left for Japan and had the most productive years of his career there.

Seven seasons with the Yomiuri Giants brought a Central League Most Valuable Player award in 1989, and he became one of the better-known American players in the Japanese game. He returned for a final major league season with Kansas City in 1991.

Born in Miami Beach in 1953, Cromartie collected 1,104 major league hits and later campaigned publicly for the return of baseball to Montreal.
