Tino Martinez Marquee

b. December 7, 1967 · Seattle Mariners 1990–1995, New York Yankees 1996–2001, 2005, St. Louis Cardinals 2002–2003, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2004

New York got him from Seattle before the 1996 season to replace Don Mattingly, which is not a job anyone wanted, and he was booed through April. The club won the World Series that October and again in 1998, 1999 and 2000. In 1997 he hit 44 home runs and drove in 141, both career highs, and won a Silver Slugger.

In the fourth game of the 2001 World Series, with two out in the ninth and New York a run down and a game from elimination, he hit the tying home run off Byung-Hyun Kim. The Yankees won that game and the next one the same way, and then lost the Series in Arizona.

Sixteen seasons gave him 1,925 hits, 339 home runs, 1,271 runs batted in and a .271 average, with two All-Star selections. He came back to New York for a last season in 2005 and hit home runs in five straight games in May, at thirty-seven. He got six votes of 581 in 2011.
