Terry Puhl

Terry Puhl Marquee

b. July 8, 1956 · Houston Astros 1977–1990, Kansas City Royals 1991

Terry Puhl was born in Melville, Saskatchewan and became the most accomplished Canadian position player of his era, which was not a crowded field but was not an easy one either. He reached Houston in 1977 and made the All-Star team in his first full season.

He played right field for the Astros for fourteen years and made very few mistakes there — his career fielding percentage is among the highest ever recorded by an outfielder. In the 1980 League Championship Series against Philadelphia he hit .526.

Born in 1956, Puhl batted .280 with 1,361 hits and 217 stolen bases, closed his career with fifteen games for Kansas City in 1991, and later coached college baseball in Texas.
