Roy White Marquee

b. December 27, 1943 · New York Yankees 1965–1979

He came up in 1965, the year the dynasty ended, and played left field through the seasons when New York finished tenth, ninth and fifth, and was still there for the pennants of 1976, 1977 and 1978 and the two World Series the club won. Only six men have played more games in the uniform.

Fifteen seasons gave him 1,803 hits, 160 home runs, 934 walks, 233 stolen bases and a .271 average, with two All-Star selections. He led the American League with 99 walks in 1972 and with 104 runs in 1976, and he was a switch-hitter who almost never struck out.

He played three seasons in Japan for the Yomiuri Giants afterward and coached for New York for years. The 1985 ballot gave him no votes at all, which for that record and that tenure is the sort of result the one-and-done rule produces.
