Ross Youngs Marquee Hall of Fame 1972

He came up to the New York Giants in September 1917 and never played for anyone else. Over ten seasons he batted .322 with 1,491 hits, 236 doubles and 812 runs. He led the National League in doubles in 1919 and in runs in 1923, with 121. His highest average was .356, in 1924.

The Giants won the pennant in his first season and in each of 1921, 1922, 1923 and 1924, taking the World Series in the first two of those four. From 1918 through 1924 he batted .300 or better every year. In 1925 he fell to .264.

He played his last game on August 10, 1926, at twenty-nine, and never appeared again. He died on October 22, 1927, fourteen months later, at thirty. The writers carried him on sixteen ballots without electing him; the Veterans Committee chose him in 1972, forty-five years after his death.
