Pat Listach won American League Rookie of the Year in 1992, hitting .290 and stealing 54 bases for Milwaukee, and never played a hundred games in a season again. Knee and foot injuries took most of the next four years.
He was traded to Houston in 1997 in a deal that briefly made news because the Astros tried to void it on medical grounds, and he retired the following spring at thirty. A long second career in coaching and managing followed, including a spell as a major league third-base coach.
Born in Natchitoches, Louisiana in 1967, Listach batted .251 with 444 hits and 116 stolen bases across six seasons.
